Subtraction within 10
Take some away from a group to find how many are left.
Subtracting means taking away. 5 â 2 means you had 5 and gave away 2, so 3 are left.
Subtraction finds the difference between two quantities. The minus sign (â) tells us to remove one group from another.
Subtraction is the inverse of addition: a â b = c means a = b + c. Within 10 it builds the part-part-whole relationship.
