Addition within 10
Put two small groups together to find the total, up to 10.
Adding means putting groups together. 3 + 2 means 3 apples and 2 more apples = 5 apples.
Addition combines two quantities into a sum. The plus sign (+) tells us to join the groups and count all of them.
Addition is the operation of combining cardinalities. Within 10 it is typically modelled concretely (objects), pictorially (diagrams), then abstractly (symbols).
